The documents indicate that at least $10.6 million was transferred between February and March 2025 in six separate transactions tied to the production of the film project centered on Jair Bolsonaro’s political career.

The Intercept Brasil reported that “al menos 10,6 millones de dólares se pagaron entre febrero y marzo de 2025, en seis operaciones, para financiar el proyecto cinematográfico ligado a la familia Bolsonaro”.

The material also includes audio messages in which Flávio Bolsonaro requested that Daniel Vorcaro, owner of Banco Master, accelerate the transfers to ensure the continuity of the film’s production schedule.

Vorcaro is identified in the documentation as a central figure in one of Brazil’s most significant recent banking scandals. He was arrested late last year while attempting to leave the country after allegedly falsifying financial data and leaving a 47,000 million reais gap (more than $9.3 billion) in the Credit Guarantee Fund. His bank was subsequently liquidated.

Initial negotiations reportedly involved a commitment of up to $24 million for the film. However, the full amount was never disbursed after the scandal became public and Vorcaro was detained.

According to the documentation, Flávio Bolsonaro directly coordinated aspects of the financing, with participation from intermediaries including his brother and former congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro, as well as lawmaker Mario Frias, who served as Secretary of Culture during Jair Bolsonaro’s administration.

The project, titled Dark Horse, aims to portray Jair Bolsonaro’s 2018 presidential campaign in a large-scale production format inspired by U.S. biographical films. It is directed by Cyrus Nowrasteh and stars Jim Caviezel as Jair Bolsonaro.

More than 10 million had already been transferred between February and May 2025. The bank’s owner, Daniel Vorcaro, is in prison over a corruption scandal that implicates politicians and important judges. Intercept Brasil published audios and messages where Flávio asked him to fulfill the payments so as not to “let down” the film’s director, Cyrus Nowrasteh. The biographical film ‘The Dark Horse’ is being produced by a film studio in the United States.

Production has already been completed, with a planned release in September of this year. The premiere is expected to coincide with Brazil’s electoral cycle leading up to the October 2026 elections.

Jair Bolsonaro has been accused in connection with events surrounding the January 8, 2022–2023 attacks in Brazil, when supporters stormed government buildings in Brasília in an attempt to overturn the constitutional order.

The documentation adds new financial and operational details to an ongoing case involving political, financial, and media actors linked to the Bolsonaro family.
